The Deepwater Growth Organization delivers End to End technical opportunities to the Deepwater Line of Business. The role is for an Exploration Geoscientist delivering projects in the West Gulf of Mexico (WGOM).

Where you fit in

  • The Exploration Geoscientist will report to the WGOM Maturation Team Lead in the Growth Organization under the SVP Development & Subsurface Deepwater

  • This role as an individual contributor will work with the WGOM maturation team to deliver portfolio rejuvenation and portfolio maturation work in conjunction with the Foundations team and will handover opportunities that have been selected to drill to the Well Delivery Team.

Exploration Geoscientist

What is the role

As an Exploration Geoscientist, you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Be an individual contributor within natural teams.

  • You will generate new exploration opportunities from integrated PBE-led evaluation of petroleum systems using basin- and regional-scale data.

  • Mature leads into drill-worthy prospects and deliver wells as required.

  • You will produce alternative success and failure case realizations that honor the data and supported by relevant analogues and exploration history.

  • Also, you will collaborate with other geoscience disciplines (e.g. Specialists, Geophysics, Production), petroleum-, front-end- & well- engineering and others, to define end-to-end integrated value and, as required, to deliver safe wells to fulfil objectives.

  • Apply your skills beyond exploration projects when the natural team deliverables require you to do so.

Requirements

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • You must have minimum of 3 (three) years working experience as a geologist or geophysicist with proven subsurface evaluation / exploration experience and a technical delivery track record

  • Bachelor’s Degree in geologist, geophysicist or in any related field; Master’s Degree is required

  • Able to integrate both Geophysics and Geology disciplines for a wholistic understanding of the opportunity set

  • You will have Skill level in at least three of the following: Lead-to-Prospect Maturation, Prospect-to-Well Delivery, Heartland Rejuvenation PBE, Lead Portfolio Generation, New Business/Farm-in

  • Evaluate and communicate a range of credible subsurface scenarios that can lead to new exploration opportunities. Able to manage & communicate moderate-to-high subsurface uncertainty and ensure that the appropriate range of possible subsurface outcomes is carried through to valuation and well-design work.

  • Clear on intent: end-to-end mindset, focus efforts on key risks & uncertainties that will inform the decision in hand.

  • Best-in-class data & information management, and willingness to learn new workflows.

  • Developing ability to communicate how multi-discipline and multi-source evaluations are integrated in support of the proposition.

  • Comfortable to manage & communicate high subsurface uncertainty.

  • Exhibits the mindset and behaviors, demonstrating a learner mindset, maximizing our performance, and living our values
